I rose this morning at my usual time somewhere in the early dark hours. Well rested, I tiptoed out and made my way up the stairs. As the tea kettle warmed the water, I peeked out into the black. The wind spit small chunks of ice and snow at the big windows and I could hear the click click click as the gusts swirled everything around outside.
Hot tea in hand, I drew back the curtains and sat on the couch. The moon had just crested the horizon and the skyline barely hinted at the rise of the sun.
Is there anything more beautiful than the display of lights in the sky?
Imagine seeing the sunrise for the very first time. Or if you could only see it once.
Wouldn't you marvel at it? Take pictures and deep breaths and drink it all in?
Lucky for us, this splendor of sunlight happens every single day. Do you take time to notice? For so many reasons, I have fallen in love with witnessing the daily magic in the sky. It is a simple and powerful practice of presence. A small moment of meditation and connection to the rhythms of our home. Free to all. Just step outside.
The crescent moon started to fade as the sky turned shades of pink and purple. The single bright star disappeared behind the blanket of blue as if to say: Nice seeing you, I'll be back tomorrow.
It's time for the main event.
The sun began to beam over the hills, highlighting the grass and a thin veil of snow the wind carried along with it. I could see the mountain range way back there where the wild horses roam and could just imagine the morning sun in their manes.
I absolutely love that there is no sound to accompany the sunrise and sunset. It's as if it is saying: I am always here shining light into your life. Whether you notice me or not, I am here.
Beautiful. Silent. Steadfast.
All you need to do is pay attention.
