The Root (Papa - part 3)

Updated: Oct 8, 2021

Root vegetables, squash soup, curried carrots and roasted sweet potatoes

Earthing, grounding, healing and downward flow

This is my red root release

A continuation of My Father's Garden

We met again this morning

Out there in your garden

A promise of winter in the cool quiet wind

You were grinning at me

Triumphantly holding what looked like a giant red rutabaga

Turns out it was a carrot

Both of you were covered in dirt

It looked like you might've had to wrestle it from the earth

But you did it and you were proud

I came over to admire the monstrosity

Knowing that within the symbolism of this giant red root

Laid the secret to our healing

Only you and I understood the importance of this root release:

It meant freedom for us both

We shouted with joy!

Celebratory glee

We fell over laughing

Light and luminous

Hurray! It is RELEASED!

We are free

We are finally free.....

Curiously we peered into the dark earthen hole

Double checking to see if it was a clean break

No remnants remained

The earth was healthy, damp and cool

We gently filled it back in using our feet

The root held hues of deep red and burnt orange

Sprinkled with soil and old stories

Beautiful and mysterious

An ancient artifact of sorts

We haven't determined what to do with this beast

Roast it? Juice it? Hang it on the wall?

I am clear about one thing:

I don't want it back

Perhaps we'll bury it in the woods

Or feed it to my chickens

Leave it high in a tree to share with the eagles and the crows

A sacrificial offering in gratitude for our newfound freedom

My being feels delightfully cavernous now

Able to expand, breathe, belly laugh

Today I will celebrate being alive

And call in the next chapter

For us both

We are free

Pumpkin spice, chai tea, firelight and candles

Harvest moon, clear nights and silent starry skies

Homemade turmeric ginger carrot juice

Deep breaths and long walks in the golden leaves

Heavy blankets, snuggles and amber sunrises

Enliven your senses with Mother Nature's medicine

Soak these things in

I love the autumnal finale

And that of the ancient red root
