Versions

I looked down at my feet as I trudged up our hill

I noticed how much I loved my boots

And the way my cute socks were popping out of the tops

My tights were my most favorite pair to wear

And my jacket fit just right

So cozy and warm

The color of the clouds was perfection

I could hear my chickens hopping into their coop for the night

The land felt happy

And my heart even more so

I love this version, I thought to myself

This version of my life

This version of me

Having lived in so many places

And looked in so many different mirrors

The reflection of the one looking back now

Is my most favorite to date

She is gorgeous

Wiser and more connected

With wrinkles and some grey hair

Most days it is unbrushed and untamed

Her cheeks have lost their youthful roundedness

And gained a good amount of grit

She is less afraid of everything

And laughs easily and often

Asks for forgiveness frequently

She rests and works

Makes food and love

And you can hear her singing all of the time

A few nights ago I was jumping on the trampoline

Just me under the sky

The stars beginning to appear

And found myself laughing at the astounding beauty

The beauty of my story

The beauty that is this one and only life

I almost don't recognize my old self in the photos anymore

She was lovely and sweet

Dedicated to her family and her growth

But she was a preview of this new one

A prequel to the main event

And I have so much gratitude for her

For all of my versions

I am glad to have arrived here

I think I might have a ceremony to celebrate those younger versions of me

It will most definitely include a campfire, dancing and loads of singing
